History
of Espresso Coffee
If the coffee,
imported from South America was drunk
since 600', the first coffee shops were
opened in Venice in 1645. From there, a
little use of the drink quickly spread
first to England, but then the coffee soon
became places of birth and spread of
liberal ideas, and were frequented by
writers, politicians and philosophers,
disseminating use across
Europe.
Espresso has
origin in Milan, Italy. It was developed
in 1905 by Luigi Bezzera that solved the
problem of steam brewing by using steam
pressure to force water through minced
Italian roast coffee. Before this, the
coffee was produced by steam pressure. The
Luigi Bezzerra's machine made a better
coffee in addiction to reduce brewing
time.
Desiderio Pavoni
bought the machine's license from Bezzerra
and produced the first commercial espresso
machines. He started the production in a
little workshop in Parini street, Milan.
Since then, there
has been a constant expansion of the
coffee market for espresso based drinks in
the world.
Today the global
market sector consists of about 90,000
million dollars. Brazil alone produces
nearly one third of the coffee in the
world. Worldwide, there are also voices
concern for what is one of most goods
traded along with oil and steel.
